Flipper Zero Transmits APRS Without Extra Parts

Discover how to use Flipper Zero for APRS transmission without external components.

Transmitting APRS with Flipper Zero

APRS is a protocol for amateur radio enthusiasts allowing the exchange of short data packets. It's primarily used for transmitting GPS positions, but has other applications as well. The Flipper Zero RF hacker tool typically requires an external transmitter to send APRS signals, but [Richard YO3GND] has managed to achieve this without any additional components.

One of the Flipper's radios operates in the 435 MHz ISM band, which means it's within reach of the rest of the 70 cm amateur band. The main challenge is modulation, where the Flipper's FSK and APRS's FM are theoretically similar. With some software tinkering, the Flipper becomes an APRS station. Due to the FSK-as-FM modulation, it won't be decoded by everything, but it's a cost-effective solution if you already own a Flipper. Check out the demo video below.
