Arduino's New AI-Centric Board: VENTUNO Q

After being acquired by Qualcomm, Arduino's direction is clear: AI.

After being acquired by Qualcomm, there were many questions about what direction Arduino would take. Now, with the new Arduino VENTUNO Q board, it's becoming clear that the focus is on artificial intelligence. The board is also linked to robotics and is advertised in Qualcomm's press release as 'democratizing AI'.

Technical Details

This new board is centered around the Dragonwing IQ-8275 SoC and STM32H5F5 MCU, making it a more powerful sibling to the previously introduced Arduino Uno Q. The product page lists the release date as 'soon'.

  • IQ-8275 SoC: Part of Qualcomm's IQ8 series, featuring eight 2.35 GHz ARM cores and an Adreno 623 GPU, paired with 16 GB LPDDR5.
  • STM32H5F5 MCU: Cortex M33-based, with 4 MB of Flash and 1.5 MB of RAM.

The board is significantly larger than the Uno Q and is not limited by a single USB-C port for SoC I/O.

Practical Use

The board is more geared towards industrial and automation applications; however, it's still uncertain if it will capture the interest of Arduino enthusiasts. At the same time, Qualcomm might be aiming to enter entirely new markets under the Arduino brand.
