The Dawn of the Transistor
In 1947, the invention of the transistor revolutionized the world of electronics. Engineers John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, and William Shockley at Bell Labs developed this miraculous component. The first point-contact transistor was made from germanium and used primarily for laboratory purposes.
Integration and Miniaturization
By the late 1950s, wider use of the transistor led to its integration into integrated circuits. In 1958, Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce invented the integrated circuit, combining transistors on a small chip. This spurred the miniaturization of electronics and paved the way for the first microprocessors.
